MADFILM SUMMER 2014: Back with a Vengeance

MFFSummerAfter a brief hiatus the Madison Film Forum is ready for some sensational summertime cinema.

The story so far…

First, you should check out Episode 77 of the Arts Extract podcast, where Jake Smith and I join host Scott Gordon and LakeFrontRow‘s David Klein in a discussion of Madison’s summer movie season, including a discussion of this week’s screening of Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac at the UW Cinematheque. (You can listen to the episode in the embedded player below.)

This week we will preview the entire Cinematheque opening weekend. Today Jake Smith looks at John Carpenter’s They Live. Stay tuned for Taylor Hanley’s review of Smile, and my thoughts on von Trier’s Nymphomaniac. I’m also still plucking away at a review of Citizen Koch which plays this week only at Sundance.

Rev up your engines…it’s gonna be a wild ride…

Keep checking back here and at our Facebook page for events like our ongoing Movie Tuesdays (which will resume next week) and at least one Drive-In Caravan (our Alternative Screening Calendar will keep you up to date on what’s playing at the Highway 18 Outdoor Theater in Jefferson and the Sky-Vu Outdoor Theater in Monroe).

And while we won’t have a formal Movie Tuesday this week, some of us will be checking out the sure-to-be-unique experience of watching The Lego Movie at Camp Randall Movie Night on Thursday, June 19 at 7:15pm (Gate 1 opens at 6:30pm).

And if you haven’t already, be sure to check out the animation series at this summer’s Rooftop Cinema at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. The screening on Friday, June 20 at 9:30 will feature Czech animator Břetislav Pojar, who produced many films for the legendary animation unit at National Film Board of Canada.

Too many films, not enough time. Keep checking back for updates!
