Jake’s Take: 007 Days of 007

cr2Discuss: Jake’s Take

Introduction to 007 Days of 007

Counting down the seven days until the release of SPECTRE, Jake Smith examines one image from each (official) Bond film from Dr. No to Skyfall

On behalf of the Madison Film Forum, allow me to welcome you to a special series. In advance of the latest James Bond film, SPECTRE, we will be turning some of our site’s focus for the next 7 days to all things Bond.

Well, almost all things; I won’t be posting on Never Say Never Again, or the 1954/1967 versions of Casino Royale, for that matter. All of the official Bond films, on the other hand, will be represented here. For the next 7 days, I will offer some brief thoughts on each entry in the series, from Dr. No through Skyfall. I will then follow those up with a closer look at SPECTRE…once I’ve seen it a few times.

I have chosen one shot from each film as a springboard to survey certain elements of the franchise—be they known or neglected—and as a springboard, hopefully, to generate discussion about these films with you, intensify your excitement for the release of SPECTRE, and maybe share a little of my love for the series with you along the way.

These posts will assume viewers have seen the films at least once, so spoiler warnings are officially in effect, even (and in some cases especially) for the later films. I will post about multiple films each day, with the tentative lineup as follows:

October 31: Dr. No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965)

November 1: You Only Live Twice (1967), On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), Diamonds Are Forever (1971)

November 2: Live and Let Die (1973), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

November 3: Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), A View to a Kill (1985)

November 4: The Living Daylights (1987), Licence to Kill (1989)

November 5: GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), Die Another Day (2002)

November 6: Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012)

Please join us for a week-long look back at more than half a century of James Bond movies, and then be sure to join us for our Madfilm Meetup on November 17 to see SPECTRE!
