We’re changing things up a bit for our Madfilm Meetup this week. Let’s meet on Thursday, July 24 at 6:30pm to check out LakeFrontRow and Central Cinema’s screening of the short films of Phantom Moth Productions.

Admission is free, and doors to Room 302 in the Central Library (201 W. Mifflin Street) open at 6:00 if you want to get a seat early.

Here’s what the good folks at LakeFrontRow have to say about the screening:

LakeFrontRow.com and Central Cinema present films from Madison’s Nicolas Alexander and Phantom Moth Productions. Over the past two years, writer-director Nicolas Alexander has gathered local, multi-talented artists for his guerrilla production troupe including cinematographer Evan Parquette and hip-hop musician/actor Carlos Christian.

-Alexander’s early work in “Keep Movin'” and “Runnin'” situate biographical elements from Christian’s life inside of pulp crime fiction stories.

-“The Harbor,” which took home awards for acting and cinematography and won runner-up for “Best Film” at this year’s 48 Hour Film Festival, combines a disabled man’s charming love story with grounded science-fiction.

-“The Armed Robbery on 44th Street” toys with perspective as its criminals in hiding recall the details of a heist gone wrong.

The films of Phantom Moth Productions can be aggressive and swift in their retribution, but even the darkest stories are not without a pathos and beauty, often conveyed through Parquette’s gorgeous cinematography.

Nicolas Alexander, Evan Parquette, and Carlos Christian will all attend the screening for a Q&A after the show.

Admission is FREE. Doors open at 6:00p. Rm 302.
