The Madison Film Forum is pleased to announce that we will partner with local websites Arts Extract and LakeFrontRow for what should prove to be the most extensive coverage of the 2014 Wisconsin Film Festival.
The Madison Film Forum will aggregate our collective coverage at a #wifilmfest page, with a link found in the black navigation bar. Until the Festival coverage begins after March 6, you can check their full RSS feeds to get a sense of their fine work.
In addition to covering the arts in Madison on their blog, Scott Gordon and his colleagues at Arts Extract also produces a fine podcast. If you haven’t already, you should subscribe to the Arts Extract podcast or give it a listen online.
Billed as “Your #3 Source for Film in Madison, Wisconsin,” LakeFrontRow covers the Madison film scene thanks to David Klein and his colleagues. They also have sponsored Local Filmmaker events at the Madison Public Library Central Branch, and their most recent event was a screening with Firmament Films back in January. Their “What’s Playing, Madison?” feature is also extremely valuable.
I think this is a very exciting development, as it could lead to a healthier, more productive and constructively critical discussion of where the Wisconsin Film Festival is at in 2014. And rather than focus on the same films that we assume that a certain demographic might want to read about, we will do our best to split up the films, minimize overlaps (allowing for some debate, of course), and discuss films that are often overlooked in local coverage.
Stay Tuned! Below is the partnership announcement from Scott Gordon at Arts Extract:
We’re excited to tell you that we’ll be teaming up with two independent Madison film sites, Madison Film Forum and Lake Front Row, to cover the 2014 Wisconsin Film Festival, which takes place in Madison April 3 through 10. Look for coverage to kick off on March 6, when the festival schedule is released online and in Isthmus. By working together, we hope to cast a wide net and provide preview coverage that does some justice to the festival’s selection of about 150 films. In addition to previewing individual films, we’re planning on discussing other features of the festival, be that interesting themes we pick up on in the lineup, worthwhile filmmaker talks, or the changing WFF experience itself. And, of course, we’ll be doing plenty more during the actual festival. Keep up with our coverage through the usual social-media channels; we’ll all be mutually sharing each other’s WFF stories and producing one or two collaborative podcasts. Follow @ArtsExtract, @LakeFrontRow, @MadFilmForum, and the #wifilmfest hashtag.
Both Madison Film Forum and Lake Front Row are scrappy upstart sites like ours, and both have been offered distinctive perspectives on Madison’s film offerings. We’re proud to be working with them.
